An individual who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two children aged nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at the location in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.
The defendant was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on late November.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.
She stated his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he managed.
The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated the man had been able to explain this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.
The legal representative stated further: "Recently" his stepson had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.
"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel explained items including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She stated the man continued to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.
"The police had not gone out by that time," she added.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the events.
The prosecutor stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement again.
She stated Ruben then played the "candy game" in a room of five children.
